@Kim: My Academic Manager post came to the end of my contract, and as we restructured the post changed to Branch Manager which I decided not to apply for. Now I am a part-time teacher - so I haven't left entirely Phil. Please pass on my regrets to Dr Katt, I would have loved to be his (and your) line manager... but I think I am done with line management. We make the process far too complicated imo.

Why do all the nice people leave the Council?’ I ask, searching for a device stronger than a rhetorical interrogative.
I don’t know how I’m going to break this to Dr. Katt; the furry toy who sits on my desk and acts as my chief confidant and councillor. I had promised him you would appear some day, descending on a cloud of reason, to line manage the two of us; rendering justice in this dark city of light.
